Cast: Jack Black, Angelina Jolie and Jackie Chan
Director: Jennifer Yuh
The sequel to the animated hit with the clumsy martial arts panda easily tops the original film with an endless flow of beautifully animated action, a great sense of humor and breath-taking sceneries. The long list of great voice actors fill their characters with life, making it easy to cheer for them. Jack Black turns out to be the perfect choice for Po once again. Interestingly enough, the film also plays with different kinds of animation, in the opening sequence, dreams, flashbacks and the end titles. The plot does not even pretend to have branches but goes right for the kill, making for a great pace without forgetting touching or sweet scenes. The action and fights are fun and gorgeous to look at, but maybe a bit too much for the smallest viewers. The 3D effects are among the better ones of recent releases. The pretty surprising end twist also makes you wish for another sequel, something that doesn't happen all that often, considering the huge flow of animated films
Of course the 3D requires many set-piece action sequences and the other characters hardly get any attention. But Kung Fu Panda 2 is exactly what a family needs on a hot summer day – I recommend that you check it out.
