VAANAM TAMIL MOVIE REVIEW

Vaanam ..promos in TV promised us a different venture from STR. sure;-) ..Vaanam is completely new to tamil movie where the narration is fantastic.Vaanam a remake of telugu Vedham sticks mostly to original has delivered a good flick .

Starring: Str, Anushka, Bharath, Vega, Santhanam
Direction: Krish
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Production: Cloud Nine Movies (Dhayanidhi Azhagiri)

Strengths

It's Krish, the director of the movie has portrayed every character which is close to the heart in the society. The way of narration is also neat& unique which is not clumsy.difficult story woven in simple way. Krish keeps the audience attention from the word go..has it doesn't lose its stream. Good /small messages to delivered in the script ..needs a pat. Emotional ...screenplay with all class attempt. STR has given knock out performance...as Cable Raja..He doesn't have much scenes in the first half....seems to be routine STR movie but..its all STR show in the last 30 min of the movie. be it...emotion,shock,surprise, anger,frustation...superb..Surprise thrown to audience in the name of STR..Santhanam the man who take care of the comedy tickles you most of the time with his antics and dialogues

Saranya not to forget her the innocent mother performance.tops ..in performance.Prakash raj transfers himself as any character is visible in the movie too...he rocks as usual. Bharat,a cool suave guy has come a long way given a mature performance-presented himself well as upper rich class guy. Anushka,,has lived as saroja with her meaty role ..oozes some oomph factor with her hippy-hoppy show. Every body has done the job.....Ganesh,Old man, child, etc....

Nirav shah lighting is excellent as it gives a grey shade to the characters.different show for all the five stories lighting, angles are praise worthy. Yuvan "Evan de" , "No money" "cable raja" will entertain the front benchers "vaanam" song picturised well for the situation. Shines in BGM too ..but not classy. Editing is apt for the complex narration. Dialogues are penned keeping the present society in mind.

Weakness

It is the similar pattern of hollywood Babel, and few movies. Choreography is below average with Silambarasan and bharat two best dancers in kollywood in the board should have rocked at least in a song. All songs could have been better picturised. Some may lose the connection in the story..needs a good observation.

Vaanam is fine, heart feel movie will sure have a place in the good movie of tamil cinema

Verdict: 6/10( 1 for screenplay , 1 for direction, 1 for STR,1 for performance and cast, 1 for music and 1 for photography)

The Train- Malayalam Movie Review

Based on the infamous chain bomb blasts that shook Mumbai and its railway stations killing hundreds a few years ago, the movie tells the life of few Malayalees who had the ill-fate to be in the receiving end of all agonies. In the five main tracks, told  without much competency, we have Jayasuriya as karthick, an aspiring singer who dreams of lending his voice to a track set to music by AR Rehman. On the very day of the blasts he gets an offer to attend an audition for a Rehman song and embarks on a train to Chennai. And there is one girl who is diverted to life by a unintended call from Karthick, who later loves to meet him on the same day. One child locked in the safety of a big metro flat is on the attempt to somehow bring his grandfather, now staying in an old age home, to attend his birthday. In the third track is Suhana (Sabitha jayaraj) who is trying to get the pension money from the authorities, to pay for the tickets and to send her grandfather to Holly Hajj. In the same Mumbai metro are a group of eight, all set to create humgama by planting ‘pressure cooker bombs’ in seven moving trains. And there is this shrewd, upright ATS officer Kedarnatah( Played by Mammootty), who is always after suspicious faces in his lookout for those who create troubles in the city. ‘The train’ thus goes on a flashback through the lives of these few on the very day of the blast, from morning six to the evening six, till the actual blasts happen.

Following the likes of  some well made Hindi movies on the similar subject like ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’, the parallel narratives in 'The train' are something that interests a few  and disinterest much of  the viewers at the same time, as they  just doesn't turn out as exciting as the one-line concept. The problem here is that we don’t feel any life in some off these tracks, which seems stretched and unwanted after a promising start. 95 percent of the shots in the movie have only one of its players on screen at a time  and they communicate with each other all through phones. All major incidents in the movie are this routed through phone calls—the bomb planting, investigations, and all to the extent that if this gadget was never discovered, this movie couldn't have happened.

Most of the shots in the movie are recorded in real lights and the cameramen Seenu Murukkumpuzha and Thanu balak would have been to their worst nightmares to have shot the movie with such limited lights and time. Even in that conditions, they deliver a much quality product, as far as the visuals are concerned, though there are jarring tonal shifts, poorly lit sequences, and many rough out of focus edges. It is high time that director Jayaraj  must give away his shoddy shooting methods to cut down budgets and concentrate on making quality frames that shows the richness of movie making.Otherwise, Jayaraj will end up making maximum films, but most will be exercises in boredom and monotony, like the case with 'The train'.

The highlight of the movie is the six good songs by Sreenivas, all of which are special in some manner But apart a couple, Jayraj has used the most in the unwanted areas, which has resulted in poor appreciation for the music department. Gopisundar's BG scores are effective in some sequences. The editing department by Vivek Harshan seems to have overworked to create some kind of flow for the movie, bust fails due to the demands of needed shots.

In the Box Office , 'The train' may fall off from its rails within a couple of weeks run. Considering the wide array of experience the director has in  directing every genres in Mollywood, 'The train' could have been much, much better if it were visualized with more interesting, well developed characters and sequences.

Kamal to direct 'Viswaroopam'

Kamal to direct 'Viswaroopam'

Finally, an end is being put to all guessing games surrounding Kamal Haasan's next venture 'Viswaroopam'. We learn from reliable sources that director Selvaraghavan has walked out of the project and Kamal himself will wield the megaphone now.

Kamal will also be handling the script, screenplay, lyrics for this movie and sources also reveal that the producer is planning to release this big budget by late 2011. Remember we told you this trilingual is made at a whooping budget of 150 crore plus rupees?
"Since it may take some time for Selva to complete his current film ‘Irandam Ulagam’, which has Dhanush and Richa Gangopadhyay in lead roles, he has opted out of the project and Kamal has replaced him," sources say.
As we had earlier informed, a month-long schedule is being planned in London for 'Viswaroopam', where some important scenes on Kamal and heroine Sonakshi Sinha will be shot.

This has only led us movie-buffs looking forward to even more, for it means Selva will concentrate full-on his ‘Irandam Ulagam’ and Kamal will get behind the camera after ‘Virumandi’ that was one big sensation.

Mohanlal to do Bheeman’s role in Randamoozham (MT-Hariharan Film)

Superstar Mohanlal is all set to give life to Jnanpith winner M.T. Vasudevan Nair’s angst-ridden Bheeman in Randamoozham a mega film being planned by director Hariharan.

There was intense speculation in filmdom on who would portray Bheeman, the Pandava warrior of Mahabharata, whom MT presented in his 1984 novel as a tragic character, always playing second fiddle to the more heroic Arjuna, misunderstood and derided as a muscleman by friend and foe.

Hariharan is learnt to have finally zeroed in on Mohanlal and held discussions with him on the project for which MT is penning the script. Mr Antony Perumbavoor , the actor’s secretary and partner in Aashirvad Cinemas, told Deccan Chronicle that Mohanlal was all excited about the role. “It is a role which has been in his mind for long and he is greatly thrilled to be part of the MT-Hariharan team again,” he said. However, Mr Antony added that only a preliminary discussion had been held and the project was yet to assume final shape.

Hariharan, fresh from the success of “Pazhassi Raja,” is planning Randamoozham as another epic multilingual movie. The Hariharan-Mohanlal-MT combination had creates such remarkable films as Panchagni, and Amrutamgamaya earlier. Mr Antony said the movie is likely to be costlier than the Rs 25 crore Pazhassi Raja.

Seniors Malayalam Movie Review

Seniors - Have a summer fest with this ‘Seniors’

A movie telling a campus story,  that too from the director who had created the biggest hit of 2010 in ‘Pokkiriraja’.... one cannot be blamed for expecting a rocking entertainer. With a cast lines that have earlier never been grouped together ,  ‘Seniors’ aroused a lot of expectations. The big question is does it deliver, what it promised to be  in its promos and posters?...Yes, the answer is a big ‘Yes’.Packing in everything that you expect and relate to in a teen flick, ‘Seniors’ is a heavy duty stuff that appeal to the sensibilities of generation X.

The movie is all about four friends Pappu alias Padmanabhan, Idikkula, Rex and Munna (played by Jayaram,Biju menon,Kunchakko and Manoj k Jayan respectively) who decides to get back to their studies, after a gap of 12 years. The four had to discontinue their college life following a tragedy that happened amidst a college festival and Pappu was then sentenced to a jail term for twelve years. Now back from Jail,  Pappu wants to start everything from where they have missed it and the other three supports him but giving a break to their jobs and joining the college for M A philosophy. But little did they surmise that their new college life was an attempt to unravel something that laid mysteriously beneath, for long.

The director in Vysakh needs a good applause for making ‘Seniors’ a watchable movie as this was not an easy script to direct. He has came a long way from ‘Pokkiriraja’ and displays his mastery of telling a complicated narrative without giving you a feel of that. His plotting of emotions from Scene A to Z is well structured and has created  a very interesting climax, which stands brilliant wholly due to its execution, rather than its predictability and content.

It will be of surprise to realize that ‘Seniors is also scripted by Sachi-sethu, who penned a drastic downer in the recent ‘Doubles’.This time they held fast to their task creating a movie that will definitely keep you glued to the seats. The story moves in a serpentine manner, with flashbacks and references about happenings that becomes clear only by the culmination. . Of course, there are minor aberrations, but the finale packs in a solid punch. Dialogues are simple; they don't get flowery at any point. There is plenty of fun in the former half, and Suraj comes up with his routine slapstick to fill the void in the later half, where the proceedings get serious.

The four Seniors were really effective, bringing in lots of sparkle and shine to the film.Biju menon is the pick of the lot, who hasn't worked in many comic capers, but handles his part confidently, with most of his comedies coming out really well. Manoj K Jayan as a flirty Munna slips into the roles with remarkable ease.Jayaram has very few one liners to tickle your funny bone but plays  to the demands of his role.Kunchakko Boban once again displays his newly found maturity as an improved actor. The others in the cast including Padmapriya, Siddhique, Vijayaraghavan and Ananya are in their regular moulds, but suit the roles they are on.

In the technical front, Shaji’s cinematography is of superior quality and never bores you with his frames, though much of the movie is shot in the college campus. The two songs by Jassie Gift and Alphonse sounded well on first hear, but the background tracks by Gopisundar was a scream and is in perfect sync with the mood of the film. Also is the track set by Alphonse that becomes the BG of the play’ carmen’ enacted on the stage.

' Seniors ‘will definitely score big time for its skillful performances and the superb execution of the subject. This is an entertainer that has something for everyone. So be at the movies houses for a movie that has the potential to rock big time.

Rating - 6.25/10
